The Chicago and Illinois Tourist Office (CITO) are giving the people of Manchester free cab rides and a chance to win a holiday of a lifetime in Chicago, Illinois and along legendary Route 66. Chicago has released a fleet of 10 marked taxis that will be driving the streets of Manchester, waiting to be hailed by lucky commuters between 31st May and 25th June 2010.

Every Friday during the promotion, in lottery style, one of the 10 Chicago taxis will be offering free rides* within Manchester city centre limits, courtesy of the CITO. The lucky “free” taxi will remain undistinguished from the others however, so it’s up to Mancunians to hail the right cab and hope they are the lucky one.

Not only will these special ‘Chicago’ taxis be offering customers free rides, but once inside, commuters will also find details on how to enter a competition to win an amazing holiday in Chicago and on Route 66. Having recently conducted a survey into the holiday habits of British tourists, research found that 86% sought more unique, experience-driven holidays that go beyond traditional beach style vacations. Long-haul treks such as the Great Wall of China, thrill-seeking adventures like the climb to Everest Base Camp and iconic road trips such as Route 66, were top of the list.
